The short version: 51 is the new 19. 80s enthusiast. Apolitical if I can help it. Dog and cat lover. A fan of music, movies, some TV, the ocean, writing, running, creating radio, dancing, life, love, the idea of happily ever after and most things retro. Ask anyone.
A longer version: I was born in Bar Harbor, Maine in the Winter before the Summer of Love, have spent a good chunk of my life between Portland, Maine and Winslow, Maine and have loved the 80s since 1979; you can figure the math out on that one 😉
For 10 years, I was Music Director for WMPG community radio in Portland, Maine, where I got to meet and/or interview some of my 80s heroes and heroines, such as Rob and Eric of The Hooters, Dave Wakeling of The English Beat, Elvis Costello, Aimee Mann of ’til Tuesday, Colin Hay of Men at Work, Peter Murphy of Bauhaus, and the incomparable Cyndi Lauper.
My long-running STUCK IN THE 80s radio show was a Sunday night staple on WMPG for more than 20 years (with many thanks to my regular guests hosts DJ HOPE and DJ SHAWN EMERICK!!)! It was an amazing time. I started the show at 29, and I ended the show on my 50th birthday on February 12, 2017, during a blizzard and we literally shut the station down and dropped the mic. I’ll never forget it. It was so much fun bringing 80s music to Portland and beyond for more than twice the decade the show represented. Thank you so much for your support over the years – it’s not forgotten!
These days, when I’m not working the day job thing and not writing on the bloggy thing here, I am spending as much time as I possibly can with my best friend, my sexxy, sassy radio co-host, my running partner, my yoga coach, my writing hero, the reason this blog exists and my girlfriend, the lovely and beautiful Maryhope, and we still rule the airwaves in Portland and beyond from time to time. We are looking to relocate outside of Boston, and start ruling the airwaves there and then some. Stay tuned.
Until next time, take care, be good and I’ll catch you on the flip side!!
